I'm located in Ashland, just 15 minutes north of Richmond, right in the heart of the RVA area. My studio is part workshop, part library, part enchanted backyard and it's built around a different way of teaching.

Classes that work around your schedule, not the other way around

Every workshop at AJ Newell Studio is request-to-book. That means you tell me when works for you, and we find a date, not the other way around. Not many studios in the area offer that kind of flexibility, and it makes a real difference if you've got a busy schedule or just prefer not to be locked into someone else's calendar.

Often just you and me at the bench

Many of my sessions are booked by a single student. That's not a downside, it's the whole point. One-on-one instruction means significantly more hands-on guidance than you'd get in a room full of people. You work at your own pace. You're never rushing to keep up or waiting around for someone else to catch up. Every question gets answered fully, right when you have it.

If you'd rather learn alongside a friend or a small group, that's available too. Classes are capped at six either way, so the attention stays real.

A finished piece. Every time. If you've never touched a torch or you're an experienced maker looking to add a new skill, you'll leave with something you made yourself — a sterling silver ring, a pendant, a pair of earrings — using materials and tools that are already included in your workshop price.
