Introduction to Enameling
Discover the ancient art of fusing glass to metal.
About this workshop
NOTE: This class has flexible scheduling and can accommodate up to 5 students. Please use the "request to book" button to arrange a mutually agreeable class time. Enameling is a process by which powdered glass is fused to a metal substrate at high heat. Enamels can be applied to glass, ceramics, and most commonly, metals. In this 4-hour techniques-based class you will learn how to prepare pre-cut copper shapes for enameling. We’ll cover cleaning the metal, properties of transparent and opaque enamels, layering colors, line application, stenciling, dry sifting, wet-packing, and firing methods. Expect to leave with at least two pairs of earrings and a pendant, depending upon the complexity of your designs. All materials and use of the studio's tools are included in the workshop price; however, you may want to bring magnifying glasses. This is a class for all skill levels, no previous enameling experience required.
